Trevi Fountain Fontana di Trevi
Rome's grand Baroque fountain, where visitors toss a coin to return.
The Trevi Fountain, finished in 1762, fills a small square with Neptune's chariot, sea horses and tumbling water. Legend says that throwing a coin over your shoulder ensures you return to Rome.
The square is very crowded at most times of day. Since February 2026 the area next to the basin has an entry charge to control crowds, while the surrounding square remains free to view from.
Booking advice
No booking is needed for the square. Buy the €2 ticket online beforehand to skip the queue, if you want to go to the basin.
Insider tips
- Come very early (before 8:00) or late at night for the best light and the thinnest crowds.
- Throw the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder, back to the fountain.
- Beware of pickpockets and of people selling roses, selfie sticks or "free" bracelets here.
