The Forum was the centre of public life in the Roman Republic and Empire. Temples, law courts, triumphal arches and the Senate House stood here. Today it is a field of columns, arches and foundations, with the Arch of Titus and the Temple of Saturn among the best-preserved sights.

It is easiest to understand with an audio guide or a small guidebook. The path from the Arch of Titus to the Capitoline Hill follows the old Via Sacra.

Booking advice

The Forum is covered by your Colosseum ticket, so no separate booking is needed. Bring water and a hat in summer, as there is little shade.
