The long oval shape of Piazza Navona follows the Stadium of Domitian, built in AD 86. Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers stands in the middle, and the square is surrounded by Baroque palaces and the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone.
It has artists, street performers and restaurants. Prices at the café tables on the square are high, so enjoy the view and eat in the side streets.
Tickets / priceFree. Food and drink on the square cost more than in surrounding streets.
Opening hoursOpen at all times. The square is especially lovely in the evening, when it is lit up.

Insider tips
- Look for the fountain's figures: the four rivers represent the Nile, Ganges, Danube and Rio de la Plata.
- Underneath the square are the remains of the stadium; the Museo di Roma shows some of it.
- Eat or have a drink one or two streets away for lower prices, for example around Via della Pace.
