Scams to avoid in Edinburgh

Low risk, but worth knowing.

Pickpockets in crowds

Edinburgh is generally safe, but busy places such as the Royal Mile, Princes Street, the Castle queue and Fringe crowds attract pickpockets. Keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket or zipped bag, and take extra care on crowded buses and at festival events.

Unofficial tickets and tours

Buy tickets for the Castle, Holyroodhouse and other major sights only from the official website or ticket desk, as resellers add fees and sometimes sell invalid tickets. Be wary of anyone on the street offering "skip-the-queue" tickets or heavily discounted tours.
