Local etiquette in Edinburgh

Manners and Scottish habits.

Queue and say thanks

Scots are friendly and appreciate politeness. Queue properly, say "thanks" to the bus driver as you get off, and stand on the right of escalators and stairs so others can pass. If you struggle with an accent, a polite "sorry, could you say that again?" is always welcome.

Scottish, not English

Scotland is a country within the UK with its own legal system, banknotes and traditions. Calling someone from Scotland "English" is a common mistake that causes offence. Say "Scottish" or "Scots", and "British" if you mean the UK as a whole.
