Money & tipping in Paris
Cards, cash and service.
Cards work almost everywhere
Contactless payment is accepted in most shops, cafés, museums and taxis. Keep €20–40 in cash for small market stalls, bakeries and the occasional card minimum.
Tipping is optional
Service is included in restaurant prices by law ('service compris'). Locals round up or leave a euro or two for good service at a café, and around 5–10% at a restaurant if they were pleased. Nobody expects 15–20%.
