Getting around in Paris
Metro, RER, tickets and passes.
The metro is the fastest way around
Sixteen metro lines and five RER lines cover the city. The metro runs from about 5:30 until about 1:15 at the end of the line (around 2:15 on Friday and Saturday nights and before public holidays); the last train passes central stations earlier. Lines are identified by number and final stop, so check the direction before you go through the gate. Noctilien night buses run after the metro closes. Source: RATP, checked 2026-10-08
Buying tickets
Paper tickets have been phased out. Load tickets onto a rechargeable Navigo Easy card (€2, sold at stations) or keep them on your phone with the Bonjour RATP or Île-de-France Mobilités app. A metro/train/RER ticket costs about €2.55 (unlimited transfers for up to 2 hours) and a bus/tram ticket about €2.05. The two are separate and not interchangeable. Source: Île-de-France Mobilités (2026 fares), checked 2026-10-08
