Laid out in 1612 for Queen Marie de' Medici, the gardens surround the Luxembourg Palace, now home to the French Senate. Parisians come here to read, jog, play chess and sail toy boats on the Grand Bassin.

Wander to the Medici Fountain on the east side, one of the most romantic corners of the city.
