A huge mall with an aquarium, ice rink and souk, connected to the Burj Khalifa.

More than a shopping centre, The Dubai Mall is where much of the city spends its evenings. Beyond the shops you will find the Dubai Aquarium tank (visible for free from the mall), an Olympic-size ice rink, a gold souk section, a waterfall and dozens of restaurants with fountain views.

It is enormous, so pick a few things and use the maps. In summer it is also a pleasant place to walk in air-conditioning.

No booking needed. Book a fountain-view table at a terrace restaurant if you want to eat during the evening shows.

Insider tips

The giant aquarium tank is visible from the ground floor for free; the paid tunnel is only worth it with children.
Use the metro link bridge rather than a taxi at night: the taxi queue can take 30 minutes or more.
The Souk area on the lower ground floor has better-value souvenirs than the high-end wings.
