Eating out in Barcelona

Tapas, Catalan dishes and when to eat.

When Barcelona eats

Lunch is the main meal, usually from 13:30 to 15:30, and many restaurants offer a fixed-price "menú del dia" on weekdays at good value. Dinner starts about 21:00, and kitchens may be closed between meals. Tapas bars and cafés serve food all day.

Dishes to try

Try pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato), patatas bravas, croquetes, fideuà (a noodle paella), crema catalana, calçots in season (winter and early spring) and fresh seafood. Paella is a Valencian dish, and the best versions are made to order and take about 30 minutes, so avoid places with a ready-made tray.
