Park Güell Parc Güell
Gaudí's hilltop park of mosaic benches, a lizard fountain and sweeping city views.
Park Güell was planned as a garden estate for wealthy families and became a public park in 1926. The Monumental Zone has the famous dragon fountain, the mosaic bench that winds around the main terrace, and the columned hall below it.
The wooded outer part of the park is free and has good viewpoints. The paid Monumental Zone is timed and capped, so book ahead and allow time for the uphill walk from the metro.
Booking advice
Book online ahead; walk-up tickets are limited and often gone by mid-morning in summer. Buy a slot early in the day to avoid the heat and the biggest crowds.
Insider tips
- Take the metro to Vallcarca and walk downhill through the park, so the steepest part is behind you.
- For a free view of the city, climb to the Turó de les Tres Creus cross, the small hill just outside the paid zone.
- Bring water; there is little shade on the main terrace.
